Australia’s Department of Home Affairs has moved India, Nepal, Bangladesh, and Bhutan to the highest-risk visa category (Evidence Level 3) under the Simplified Student Visa Framework, effective 8 January 2026.
This change follows concerns over visa integrity, including fraudulent documents and non-genuine applications. Students from these countries will now face stricter checks, stronger financial and academic evidence requirements, and possible delays in visa processing.
Student visa processing times are already longer than usual due to Home Affairs staffing delays, so applicants are advised to apply early and ensure all documents are accurate and genuine.
