1. Enhanced Flexibility for Work Visa Holders

Upcoming Revisions: Streamlining the Temporary Skills Shortage (TSS) Process Starting from 23 November 2024, the Government plans to streamline the Temporary Skills Shortage (TSS) process by reducing the required work experience from two years to one year for Subclass 482 TSS visa applicants. However, applicants without a formal qualification may need additional work experience, which will vary based on qualifications, the skill level of the position, and the recency of work experience. This proposed change is subject to Parliament’s approval and is expected to benefit those applying for a TSS visa in late 2024.

5. New Visa Application Charges (VAC Increase) (Pic 2)

Effective from 1 July 2024, new visa application charges will apply. These charges impact all visa applications received by the Department on or after this date, reflecting the annual indexation of VACs in line with the forecast Consumer Price Index (CPI) and the 2024-25 Budget Decision Visa Application Charge Uplift.

6. End of Age Exemption for Legacy 457 Visa Holders

The age exemption allowing Subclass 457 visa holders over 45 to apply for permanent residency under the ENS program (Subclass 186) will be discontinued after 30 June 2024.

7. Closure of Provisional Business Innovation and Investment (Subclass 188) Visa

No new applications for this visa will be accepted starting July 2024. Current visa holders can still transition to the Permanent Business Innovation and Investment (Subclass 888) visa, ensuring continuity for existing business migrants.

8. Work and Holiday Visa Availability for Filipino Nationals

Filipino nationals can now apply for the Work and Holiday (Subclass 462) visa, promoting cultural exchange and work opportunities for young adults.

9. Updates to Prospective Marriage (Subclass 300) and Partner Visas

Prospective Marriage visa applications can now be granted onshore, removing the previous requirement to apply from offshore. Additionally, certain conditions such as being sponsored at the time of decision-making have been waived under specific circumstances like the death of a sponsor, child of the relationship provisions, or experiences of family violence. The legislative language now focuses on those who have ‘experienced’ rather than ‘suffered’ family violence, broadening the support available in traumatic circumstances.
