The Student Guardian Visa 590 is intended to:
- ensure that school-aged children on a student visa have appropriate care and welfare arrangements during their stay in Australia and
- allow, in very limited circumstances, for a student guardian to provide appropriate care and welfare arrangements for a student 18 or older.
Who is eligible:
- A parent or a person above 21 years old with custody of the student or a written consent from the student’s parent.
Criteria to be eligible:
- Have financial capacity to support yourself and the student during the study duration.
- Have health insurance coverage
- Have a police clearance for good character.

What can you do with the Visa:
- You can live in Australia during the entire study period until the student turns 18.
- You must live with the student in Australia and cannot leave the without bringing the student
- You cannot work while in Australia.
- You can study an English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS) for less than 20 hours a week.
- You can study any other course for up to 3 months.
- You can be a guardian for more than one student at the same time.
- You cannot bring any dependent who is below 6 years old into Australia.
