Subclass 590
Student Guardian visa
Student’s parents or guardian who is above 21 years old, with custody of the student or written consent from the student’s parent, are required to apply for a Student Guardian visa (subclass 590) to provide appropriate care and welfare arrangements during their study in Australia.
Criteria to be eligible:
- Have the financial capacity to support yourself and the student during the study duration
- Have health insurance coverage
- Have a police clearance for good character
Student Guardian visa conditions include:
- Live in Australia during the entire study period until the student turns 18
- Cannot leave without bringing the student
- Cannot work while in Australia
- Allow to study an English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS) for less than 20 hours a week or any other course for up to 3 months
- Be a guardian for more than one student at the same time
- Cannot bring any dependent who is below six years old into Australia
