    Family Visas Australia

Any Australian citizens, permanent residents or eligible New Zealand citizens may be eligible to sponsor their family members into Australia. The Australian Government recognizes the need for family and dependent relatives to live together. The family migration scheme in Australia permits eligible persons to sponsor their parents, dependent children or relatives to join them in Australia on a temporary or permanent basis. The Australian Family visa caters for various family categories, from relatives, siblings, and parents to the immediate family unit.

In most cases, a sponsor must demonstrate financial capability to support the family member for up to two years after their arrival in Australia. In some instances, the sponsor may be required to provide the Assurance of Support (AoS), which includes the payment of a financial bond for up to ten years. Applying for a family visa in Australia is a possible way to bring your family to live in this country.

    Aged Parent visa

The Aged Parent visa is very similar to the parent visa except the applicant is old enough to be granted an Australian Age Pension. From 1 July 2017, the qualifying age is 65 years and six months for both men and women. The qualify age will increase by six months every two years, to 67 by 1 July 2023.

This does not mean that you will automatically receive the age pension, as you must have been a permanent resident for ten years to be eligible for the age pension in Australia.

    FAQs

A Student Guardian Visa subclass 590 allows an eligible parent, legal guardian or approved relative aged 21 or over to live in Australia to provide care and welfare for an international student. Applicants must also meet financial, health and character requirements and satisfy the visa eligibility criteria set by the Department of Home Affairs.

The required documents vary depending on your circumstances but commonly include:

    • Proof of your relationship to the student
    • Evidence of financial capacity
    • Health insurance
    • Identity documents
    • Health and character documentation.

The duration of a Student Guardian Visa generally aligns with the period required to provide care for the student while they study in Australia. The Department of Home Affairs will determine the visa length based on the individual application and the student’s enrolment.

Student Guardian Visa holders are generally not permitted to work in Australia. Limited study is permitted, including an English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS) of up to 20 hours per week or another course of up to three months, provided all visa conditions are met.

The application process typically involves assessing your eligibility, preparing supporting documents, lodging the application and responding to any requests from the Department of Home Affairs. Processing times vary depending on individual circumstances and application volumes. As your Student Guardian Visa agent, we’ll guide you through every step and keep you informed throughout the process.
