The General Skilled Migration (GSM) program for the year 2023-24 is now accepting applications. The South Australian Government has released the Skilled Occupation List for the state during this period.

To handle the high demand from potential applicants residing and working in South Australia, the state has implemented a Registration of Interest (ROI) process. This process requires potential applicants to submit an ROI and receive an invitation from South Australia to apply for state nomination. Direct applications for state nomination are not accepted.

South Australia will prioritize retaining international graduates and temporary visa holders through this invitation-based system. Skilled overseas workers with expertise in high-demand fields in South Australia, such as Trades and Construction, Defence, Health, Education, Natural and Physical Science, and Social and Welfare Professionals, will be specifically targeted for South Australian nomination.

Additionally, South Australia is looking for highly skilled overseas workers who can contribute significantly to the state’s rapidly growing industries and projects of national importance. This includes individuals with experience in the defence industry or highly specialized skills in the digital and critical technologies sectors. International graduates and temporary visa holders will continue to be considered for a wide range of occupations, while there are more than 290 occupations available for offshore skilled workers.

However, South Australia is not accepting applications for state nomination under the Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) visa (subclass 188) for the year 2023-24. Business or investor migrants who already hold a provisional visa (subclass 188) can apply for nomination for the extension stream or permanent visa (subclass 888) as these categories are not subject to a nomination cap.

The application fees for South Australian nomination in 2023-24 can be found on the Application Fees page. The submission of a Registration of Interest for South Australian nomination is free of charge.
