As of December 2021, the Australian government has planned to open its NSW border to international students which will be known as NSW International Student Arrivals Plan.

250 international students will be allowed to return to NSW every two weeks to resume their studies with NSW education providers.

To be eligible for the plan, the students will need to be fully vaccinated with a Therapeutic Good Administration (TGA) recognised COVID-19 vaccination before landing in Sydney.

International students will be quarantined in purpose-built student accommodation in Sydney and must follow the same health and quarantine requirements set by the Australian Government for returning Australians.

The plan will not displace any returning Australians and be completely supported by industry, with in-kind assistance offered provided by the NSW Government around logistic and return coordination.
